Stamped Overlay Patio in Plymouth

This 1,200 square foot stamped concrete overlay was applied over an existing patio for a homeowner near Wayzata Bay in Plymouth, Minnesota. The client wanted to transform their worn, aging patio into a durable outdoor entertaining space that would complement their home's earth-tone exterior. We selected an ashlar slate stamp pattern with desert tan color to achieve a natural stone appearance at a fraction of the cost of a full tear-out.

Our crew began by cleaning and profiling the existing concrete surface to ensure proper adhesion. We applied a polymer-modified concrete overlay and stamped the ashlar slate pattern while the material was still workable. A matching release agent was used to create depth and contrast in the stamp pattern.

After curing, we applied two coats of high-solids acrylic sealer to protect the surface from Minnesota's freeze-thaw cycles and UV exposure. The finished overlay gives the homeowner a beautiful, low-maintenance outdoor space that will last for decades — without the disruption of removing the original slab.
